Thompson, Ezra (MFA)

Assistant Professor, Painting
Bower School of Music & the Arts

Ezra Thompson is a painter whose work navigates abstraction, surrealism, and realism, exploring identity, self-perception, memory, and the relationship between the conscious and subconscious. Through painting, he investigates the tension between personal experience and collective cultural narratives.

He received his BFA from The Cooper Union in New York City and his MFA in Studio Art, along with an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Art History and Philosophy, from Stony Brook University. His graduate research focused on self-portraiture, narcissism, and the philosophical construction of the Self and the Other.

His work has been exhibited at the Parrish Art Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art, Ely Center of Contemporary Art, Ferrara Showman Gallery, Silvermine Gallery and Abington Art Center, where he recently presented a solo exhibition. He has also attended residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Aljira Emerge and received fellowships supporting projects in Copenhagen, Denmark and Berlin, Germany.
