General Counsel Presents 鈥淟egal Need-to-Knows鈥� Training September 28
Dear Faculty and Staff,
The Office of General Counsel is hosting an information and training session to provide
an overview of new legislation, regulatory developments and university policies that
may impact your work.
Called 鈥淟egal Need-to-Knows,鈥� this session is designed to help faculty and staff understand
recent legislative and regulatory developments, what they mean in practice and how
best to navigate implementation. Our goal is to promote clarity, consistency and informed
decision-making across the university. Throughout this session, we remain mindful
of the university鈥檚 commitment to academic freedom and the professional judgment of
faculty in their teaching and scholarship.
蘑菇TV vigorously protects freedom of inquiry and expression and categorically expects
civility and mutual respect to be practiced by students, faculty and staff in all
deliberations on its campus. As stated in our founding principles, academic freedom
is the foundation for the transmission and advancement of knowledge.
Topics will include:
- Key legislative and regulatory updates affecting higher education
- New or revised university policies and related implementation guidance
- Practical considerations for classroom and operational settings
- Emerging legal and operational issues, including artificial intelligence (AI) in educational
and administrative settings
In some areas, guidance will continue to evolve as additional clarification becomes
available. This session is intended to provide practical direction, including examples
and tools where helpful, and to explore how faculty and staff can navigate these developments.
As always, our role is to identify legal and compliance considerations, outline available
options and support informed decision-making, within the applicable legal framework,
across the institution.
The 鈥淟egal Need-to-Knows鈥� training takes place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. September 28
in the Cohen Student Union, Room 201. Light refreshments will be available. .

New University Regulations and Policies Management System 鈥� Now Live!
Good afternoon,
The Office of the General Counsel is excited to announce that 蘑菇TV鈥檚 new regulation
and policy management system, PolicyStat, is now live.
All university regulations and policies are now in one searchable database.
PolicyStat features:
- Full-text search: Enabling you to search for specific wording within regulations and
policies, not just titles
- Combined database: All regulations and policies are located together, in one easy-to-search
location
- Coming soon: Cross-linking of referenced regulations and policies
PolicyStat also improves our approval workflows behind the scenes, making it easier
for responsible units to review and revise regulations and policies.

Organizational Update from the Office of the General Counsel
Good morning,
Over the past nine months, I have had the opportunity to closely review the legal
needs of our growing university and assess how the Office of General Counsel can best
support the institution鈥檚 expanding academic, research and operational priorities.
As the university continues to take on new construction projects, negotiate increasingly
complex contracts and develop policies that reflect our evolving environment, it has
become clear that strengthening our internal structure will help us serve the campus
community more effectively.
To support this work, I am pleased to announce an interim reorganization. Effective
immediately, David Greenbaum will serve as 鈥淒eputy General Counsel.鈥� In this role, David will provide additional
oversight and coordination across our contract review processes, policy development
efforts and legal support for new facilities and capital projects. This interim structure
will help ensure continuity, responsiveness and strategic alignment as our workload
continues to grow.
This is also an appropriate moment for this adjustment. As many of you know, one of
our attorneys recently departed the university. After reviewing the needs of the office
and the direction of our work, we have determined that we will not be refilling that
position at this time. Instead, this interim reorganization allows us to redistribute
responsibilities in a way that strengthens our capacity while maintaining a lean and
effective team.
I am grateful for the continued dedication of our legal staff and for the strong collaboration
we enjoy across the university. Please join me in congratulating David on this interim
appointment. I look forward to continuing our work together in support of the university鈥檚
mission.
