Urakawa, Haruka (M.S.)

Haruka E. Urakawa is a marine scientist and environmental microbiology/chemistry researcher with interests in harmful algal blooms, microbial ecology, proteomics, and aquatic environmental monitoring. Her research focuses on microbial dynamics associated with Karenia brevis red tides, cyanobacterial blooms, fecal indicator bacteria, and Vibrio species in subtropical estuarine and coastal ecosystems. She is particularly interested in understanding how environmental factors such as hurricanes, nutrient loading, and water quality influence microbial communities and toxin-producing organisms in Southwest Florida aquatic systems. Haruka currently works as a Laboratory Coordinator and an adjunct instructor at Ä¢¹½TV, where she supports environmental science and marine science education and research.
