Athletics Leadership Announcement

Dear Eagle Family,

I am pleased to announce that, following a two-month national search, Brian Barrio has accepted the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. His first day will be July 20.

For the first time in the university's history, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will serve as an Executive Service member and a part of the President's Cabinet, reflecting the growing importance of athletics to the university and its connection to our broader institutional mission.

Brian brings more than 20 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics to 蘑菇TV, as well as outstanding leadership and tremendous enthusiasm for the future of the ever-evolving landscape of collegiate athletics. During his five years as an NCAA Division I athletics director, he has demonstrated success in the community, the classroom and in competition.

At the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Brian led the athletics department to record-setting fundraising and corporate sponsorships, including securing the largest individual gifts in program history for men鈥檚 basketball and baseball. Under his leadership, the athletics department also achieved its highest-ever department-wide GPA, earned 10 perfect NCAA Academic Progress Rate scores, won 11 America East Conference championships, and hired three head coaches that went on to earn Coach of the Year conference-level honors.

He also served as the athletic director at Central Connecticut State University, where he led a 16-sport NCAA Division I program, increased fundraising by 40 percent during his first year and celebrated seven Northeast Conference championships. 

Brian, who has a juris doctorate from the University of California-Hastings College of the Law and a bachelor鈥檚 from Boston College, brings to 蘑菇TV a vision for advancing collaborative leadership, strategic partnerships, community engagement, student-athlete success and fostering a winning culture. I am confident he will build upon the strong momentum our athletics program has established.

I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Lauren Leister for her exceptional leadership during this period of transition, as well as to our Athletics leadership team, coaches, and staff for their unwavering commitment to our student-athletes.

Thank you also to the members of our search panel for the care, time and commitment shown to this process. The panel was led by Vice President Kitty Green and Trustee Joseph Fogg III, and their efforts led to four excellent finalists being brought to campus. While it was a challenging decision to make, Brian stood out with his well-rounded background and understanding of the current and evolving landscape of collegiate athletics. I truly believe that he has the right knowledge, skills and abilities to take us to the next level. 

蘑菇TV is excited about what lies ahead, and I look forward to introducing Brian to the Eagle community in the coming weeks.

Applications Open Soon for State 2026 Weight Management and Diabetes Management Program

Dear Employees,

To help improve the long-term health and quality of life for employees enrolled in the State Group Health Insurance plans, the Florida Department of Management Services will offer the Weight Management Program and the Diabetes Management Program for the 2026 plan year.

Members of the Weight Management Program are eligible for coverage of FDA-approved weight management medications and a wellness program.

The Diabetes Management Program provides coverage of a glucose monitor with real-time feedback and emergency outreach services, testing strips and related supplies, as well as live coaching with a certified diabetes educator.

The application period for the 2026 Weight Management and Diabetes Management Programs is open November 3-17. To apply, the applicant鈥檚 healthcare provider will need to complete the . The applicant will then sign and submit the form to the or webpages.

Retirement Planning? Book On-campus Meeting with TIAA Financial Advisor April 22-24

TIAA, the investment provider company for 蘑菇TV鈥檚 403(b) Voluntary Retirement Plan, will be on campus April 22-24. Through individual, hour-long advisory appointments, 蘑菇TV employees can discuss their current retirement elections and plan for the future.

Appointments are required and can be made for the following dates:

• April 22 | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Reed Hall, Room 223
• April 23 | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Reed Hall, Room 223
• April 24 | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Reed Hall, Room 223

Please register by April 20.

To schedule a one-on-one appointment with a TIAA financial advisor, follow the steps below:

2. If you have a TIAA account, log in with your user ID and password

Retirement Planning? Book an On-campus Meeting with CAPTRUST Financial Advisor April 22-23

CAPTRUST financial advisors, the independent advisory firm that provides investment advice to 蘑菇TV鈥檚 retirement plan committee and plan participants, will be on campus April 22-23. Through individual, 45-minute advisory appointments, 蘑菇TV employees can discuss retirement, general financial planning, investment education and advice. Employees may also create a Retirement Blueprint, CAPTRUST鈥檚 interactive retirement readiness tool.

Appointments are required and can be made on the following dates:

• April 22 | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lutgert Hall, Room 3335
• April 23 | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lutgert Hall, Room 3335

To schedule a one-on-one appointment with a CAPTRUST financial advisor, follow the steps below:

1. Click or call 800-967-9948
2. Select 鈥溎⒐絋V 1:1鈥檚 鈥� Fort Myers, FL鈥� and then click 鈥淐ontinue鈥� at the bottom.
3. Choose the 45-minute session you wish to attend.
4. Enter your information and click 鈥淪chedule It.鈥� A confirmation email will be sent immediately.
5. A reminder email will also be sent 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
6. If you need to cancel or change your meeting time, click the link received in the confirmation/reminder email. Then enter your last name and confirmation number.

To prepare for your session, please make sure you have the information you want to include in your Blueprint calculations, such as retirement account balances and current contributions to retirement accounts. You will also want to bring your login information for your retirement accounts.

If you cannot attend an on-site session, the CAPTRUST advice desk is also available. Appointments can be made by visiting .

蘑菇TV is pleased to announce TIAA, the investment provider company for 蘑菇TV鈥檚 403(b) Voluntary Retirement Plan, will be on campus January 15-17. A TIAA financial advisor will be hosting individual, hour-long advisory appointments at the Wilson G. Bradshaw Library, Room 431, giving employees the opportunity to discuss their current retirement elections and plan for the future.

Appointments can be made on the following dates:

Open Enrollment for State-Sponsored Health and Welfare Plans ends this Friday, November 1^st.

During Open Enrollment, employees have the opportunity to review State Benefit Plan options and make changes for the .

Changes made during Open Enrollment take effect on January 1, 2025.

A few important details for the 2025 plan year:

• Aflac Personal Care Indemnity benefit has increased.
• Cigna Health benefit has increased.
• Rates for Medicare Advantage Plans (MA-PD) for Retirees has increased.
• Medicare for Disability Program has been implemented through Public Consulting Group (PCG).
• Continued Benefits 鈥� Weight Management Program and Diabetes Management Program.

Applications for the Weight Management Program and Diabetes Management Program are open now through November 17^th.
